How to purchase and use an OMNY card using HealthEquity (formerly WageWorks)
Commuter Benefits
As of March 2025, MTA Premium transit cards are no longer available to buy, and if yours expires it can no longer be replaced. We are switching to either contactless payments through commuter credit cards or the NY OMNY card. Follow these four steps to buy and use an OMNY card with pre-tax dollars through HealthEquity (formerly WageWorks).
- Buy an OMNY card from a subway kiosk or retail location. They cost $1 to buy and you must load the card with a minimum of $1.
- Create an online account and register your new card to that account. You’ll receive a new OMNY account number. WRITE THIS DOWN – you’ll need it for step 3.
- Link your online account to your Wage Works account by placing a NEW OMNY card order on the Wage Works site. If you want to match the value you had on your MTA Premium card (i.e., unlimited subway and bus rides for a month) you’ll need to put in an order for $132 per month. You can also fund less than $132 if you don’t think you need unlimited rides.Â
- You must cancel any other MTA orders if they haven’t expired already. If you don’t, you’ll have two active orders. Â
Once you complete all four steps, your OMNY card will be funded each month and it will be available for use on the subway. Â
