Who can I cover on my healthcare plan?
You can add your dependents for health coverage during the Annual Open Enrollment period, which typically occurs in November, with a coverage effective date of January 1 of the following year. Regular audits are performed to ensure that your dependent meets the eligibility requirements.
During the Annual Enrollment period, you can also switch your medical, dental or vision options or waive your coverage.
You can add your eligible dependents to your coverage outside of the Annual Open Enrollment period only if you have a qualifying life event, such as you get married, or you or your spouse give birth to, or adopt, a child. To add an eligible dependent to your coverage outside of the Annual Open Enrollment period, you must contact The Benefits Center within 60 days of the qualifying life event and complete the enrollment process.
If you elect health care coverage, you can enroll your eligible family members for the same coverage as yourself. Eligible family members include:
- Your spouse or your domestic partner,
- Your children under age 26, including children placed with you for adoption and legally adopted children, stepchildren or foster children.
- Your children who satisfy all of the requirements for children described in this section and who are mentally or physically handicapped and incapable of self-support when they reach age 26 while covered under the News Corp Health Plan. You can continue coverage after their 26th birthday as long as your coverage continues and they remain wholly dependent on you for support due to their mental or physical handicap which began before age 26. You may be required to show proof of their continuing handicap.
- Your grandchildren who satisfy all of the requirements for children described in this section and for whom you can provide a declaration of their eligibility to The Benefits Center at
www.link2mybenefits.com. In addition, a grandchild cannot be covered by a natural parent under another group plan and must reside with you and be claimed as an exemption on your recent (or next) tax return. If the child’s natural parent lives in your home, both the natural parent and the grandchild must be claimed as an exemption on your most recent (or next) tax return. - Children of your domestic partner who satisfy all of the requirements for children described in this section and reside with you.
- Children under age 26 who are recognized under a qualified medical support order as having a right to enroll in the program. You cannot enroll your dependents for health care coverage unless you are also covered, nor can you receive benefits both as an employee and as a dependent, or as the dependent of more than one employee. Regular audits are performed to ensure your dependent meets the eligibility requirements.
If you don’t enroll your eligible dependent(s) within the 60-day enrollment window, you must contact The Benefits Center to discuss the options available to you and how you can initiate a Formal Appeals process.
If you initially declined coverage because you had coverage elsewhere, and you subsequently lose that coverage, the loss of coverage may be a qualifying life event. As such, you may be eligible to enroll yourself and your eligible dependents in coverage outside of the Annual Enrollment period.
