Combating Loneliness when Working from Home
Personal Things You Can Do:
- Accept that loneliness can be normal. It happens to everyone.
- Consider turning off your social mediaÂ
- Strengthen and nurture your existing relationships
- Get a pet – but not a bat
- Get a good night sleep. Sleep can be a key factor in determining your mood
- Search out Gratitude — say out loud 3 things you are grateful for every day
- Develop a hobby
- Consider joining a class outside of work: art, exercise or towards a degree
- Create your own community: Volunteer your time and join an organization that you share a passion in
- Exercise and fitness are important. Make time – use your extra commuting time wisely.
- Utilize the benefit programs available, including EAP and mental well-being solutions
- Consider seeing a therapist to talk about how you feel
- Get exercise & sunlight = endorphins + serotoninÂ
Items to Consider Incorporating into Your Work Day
- Work remotely once a week from somewhere other than home – but be smart. Don’t have a private or sensitive conversation in the middle of Starbucks!Â
- Sign up to mentor a colleague
- Use video calls where you can in your daily work dayÂ
- Slack and Google Messenger are great ways for instant connections
- Establish a routine – including non-work hours – start work around same time, select a lunch time, get some outdoor time once a day- to get coffee, walk the dogÂ
