Family Medical Leave Process
If you need to file a Family Medical Leave (FML), contact the MetLife Leave of Absence Reporting Line at 1-866-268-8224.
FML Requests
- Inform local Human Resources and your manager of your FML leave request
- An FML Rights Packet is enclosed. You must complete and return to MetLife the requested certification information within 15 days. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, as your request for family and medical leave for your own serious health condition or that of a family member cannot be considered without this form.
- MetLife will contact you to communicate your leave decision, as well as, send you a decision
- To review your leave status, you can call 1-888-300-7870 or log-on to the MyBenefits website at metlife.com/mybenefits .
Maintaining your leave request
- While you are on leave, you are still responsible for managing the
- If your leave request is for your own serious health condition, or that of a family member, be sure to partner with your physician to ensure that medical information requested by MetLife is submitted
- MetLife will keep you informed on the status of your leave and will be in touch if any additional information is needed.
- Missing or incomplete paperwork can result in an interruption in pay, where applicable, until all of the required paperwork has been received and the leave has been approved.
- In the event your leave is intermittent, it is important you call MetLife and report any absences within 7 days of that absence being You can report absences telephonically or via the web portal at www.metlife.com/mybenefits. It is also important you discuss how often the need for leave is likely to arise and agree to an appropriate schedule with your manager or supervisor.

Extending your leave request
- In the event your anticipated return to work date changes, please inform your manager or supervisor and MetLife as soon as possible.
- Ensure that your physician sends updated medical information as requested by MetLife as soon as it is determined that you will be off work longer than your original approved leave period.
- MetLife will contact you to communicate your leave extension decision, as well as, send you a decision letter.

Return to work
- For all leave reasons, before you return to work, inform your manager or supervisor prior to your expected return to work date.
- If you are out of work due to your own serious health condition, contact MetLife and local Human Resources when you are released to return to work in any capacity. Your physician release to work statement should clearly identify the date you are able to return to work and note any work restrictions that are applicable as of your return to work date.
- In the event your anticipated return to work date changes, please contact local Human Resources and MetLife to advise them of the date change.
What is FML?
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees up to 12 work weeks of unpaid leave based on a 12 month rolling period to care for your own health or the health of a family member. To see if you meet the FMLA eligibility requirements, a review of your hours worked and years of service will be completed by MetLife.
Am I still eligible for Paid Parental Leave if I don’t meet the requirements for FML?
You may still be eligible for Paid Parental Leave depending on the eligibility requirements for your particular business unit. You will receive notification of the Paid Parental Leave decision from MetLife.
What if I work in New York?
MetLife administers NY Paid Family Leave (PFL) for News Corp. This benefit applies to child bonding, military exigency leave, and to care for a sick family member. You must file for your NY PFL benefits through MetLife
What if I work in a state that offers paid family leave benefits?
 If you are eligible for a state Paid Family Leave, you must file for benefits through the state:

What if I no longer need my claim?
If you decide to cancel or postpone your leave, please contact MetLife immediately to make the appropriate adjustment to the claim. Notifying MetLife in a timely manner is critical to ensure no impact to your pay.
How can I provide information to MetLife?
There are several ways for you to forward information. For all communications to MetLife, you must include your name and associated claim number(s). Documents can be provided to MetLife via:
