A How to article
It Pays to be Kind
Whether you already donate time to support a cause you’re passionate about, or have been thinking about getting involved in your local community, Dow Jones is proud to offer you a paid Volunteer Day to support the organization or charity of your choice.
Our hope is that you’ll use this opportunity to engage in an activity that enriches or even inspires your life and the lives of others. We encourage you to think outside the box — allow the term “community” to encompass a global perspective. “Giving back” can mean sharing your expertise and talents where they are needed most.
Who can participate:
- All employees globally who are eligible for paid time off can participate immediately upon hire. Part-time employees can participate immediately upon attaining eligibility status for paid time off.
How to participate:
- Schedule your Volunteer Day just as you would a vacation day, submitting your request at least two weeks in advance, or as soon as reasonably possible within the Workday system
- Provide the name of the organization where you’ll be volunteering, including a brief summary of the work you’ll be doing
- Just like vacation days, you’ll need your manager’s final approval
Important notes:
- Volunteer Days are available as of January 1 of each calendar year
- Volunteer Days will not accrue and will not roll over into the next calendar year
- Volunteer Day is not eligible for cash disbursement and is not payable upon termination
Departments are welcome to make Volunteer Day a team building event with approval.
