The Women’s Health and Cancer Right Act
The Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act is a Federal law. It protects individuals who undergo a mastectomy. Health care plans must cover the following services after a mastectomy, as determined in consultation with the attending physician and the patient:
- All stages of reconstruction of the breast on which the mastectomy has been performed
- Surgery and reconstruction of the other breast to produce a symmetrical appearance
- Prosthesis
- Treatment of physical complications at all stages of mastectomy, including lymphedemas
